Sol-Sud would like to put more emphasis on education as a means of insuring a sustainable development. To this end, in addition to the scholarships already granted to the girls of the Hogar de Ancianos, in 2009 nine other girls of the Hogar de Ninas, as well as four girls living with the Fransciscan Sisters, will receive scholarships to help them in their studies.

Since the beginning of its activities, six groups of participants have been to Honduras with Sol-Sud for a one month internship. As of 2009, the internships last six weeks.

Twenty persons participated in the intership in Gracias and Corquin from the 14th of Febuary to the 29th of March. Two other persons from the 2008 group returned to Santa Rosa for a second stay.

The park for the elderly, in the Hogar de Ancianos, which Solidarité Sud supported financially, is now finished. Quite a success story. It is well appreciated by eveyone living and working there.

For a third consecutive year, the Distal Foundation has donated 3 000 $ for various projects and more specifically for the handicapped childrens′ project.

The Ministère des Relations Internationales du Québec (international relations department) has granted 35 681$ for the establishment of a community center in la Colonia Divina Providencia, despite its name, a shanty-town of Santa Rosa de Copan. This grant will also be used to offer courses to the residents (health, trades, elimination of illiteracy, hygiene). It was inaugurated in March 2009.

In October of 2008 the government of Honduras declared a state of emergency following the torrential rains that fell. 40 000 pesons were affected. Copan Province, Corquin and the surounding coutryside, regions that we know well, were severly damaged, mostly by the landslides that destroyed many homes. Sol-Sud gave 2 000$ to help buy clothing, food and medical supplies
